Introduction
Mentors from Simon Fraser University met with students from Riverside Secondary to discuss ecosystem health and water quality through hands-on experiments and workshops out in the field at a nearby natural large water source. For this reason they chose the large Coquitlam River.
Participants
A biology and an environmental science mentor from Simon Fraser University led a class of Grade 9 students from Riverside Secondary School to Coquitlam river to conduct water quality tests and learn about ecosystem health.
Test Location
The students and mentors tested the water of Coquitlam River from the shore.
Final Thoughts
The science mentors and students had a great day learning about water safety and quality through experimentation and open discussions. Together the students and mentors ventured out for the day, conducted experiments, gathered results and discussed everything they learned.
