Physics and Astronomy Colloquia: Dr. Tien-Tien Yu, University of Oregon
Online“Uncovering the identity of dark matter is one of the big open questions in physics today. The sub-GeV dark matter mass range has received increased interest in the last several years, owing to the lack of any unambiguous signal of the canonical WIMP in the GeV-TeV mass range. The sub-GeV mass range is relatively unexplored due to the difficulty of detecting such light dark matter with traditional techniques. However, there have been recent experimental developments that finally make sub-GeV direct detection viable."
Let’s Talk Genomics – Real ‘Life Hacks’: Synthetic Biology for Tomorrow
OnlineWhat would you do if you could start coding for the living world? Come up with ways to reverse climate change? Cure cancer? Get rid of polluting plastics? Feed the world? Welcome to the world of Synthetic Biology, the field of science that involves redesigning organisms for useful purposes by engineering them to have new abilities – live-action coding for 21st-century problems.
Explore the frontiers of this new field: what it means, why it matters, and how it is being channeled for the world’s benefit. Join this online symposium with experts from genomics, ethics, law, and entrepreneurship to discover how synthetic biology is addressing global problems, and how you can be part of these solutions for our future.
